PFED engineers, markets and distributes the Element Soil product line of soil conditioners and potting soils from its pilot facility in Pocomoke City, MD. These products are produced from anaerobically digested poultry litter via PFED's anaerobic digestion and nutrient recovery process, providing farmers and homeowners with a rich, earthy-smelling mix for crops, garden plots and houseplants alike. Biogas is captured as part of the anaerobic digestion process. It is the result of microbial processes and is primarily composed of methane, the chief constituent of natural gas. Like natural gas, it can be used to produce electricity, heat and refrigeration (offsetting energy costs from electricity and propane), or it can be upgraded to serve as a renewable fuel equivalent to compressed natural gas (CNG).
Because biogas is produced continuously and can be easily stored in moderate quantities, electricity can be generated on demand. This means that anaerobic digestion (AD) systems provide flexible power to the grid, a benefit not currently offered by other renewable energies such as solar and wind.
Biogas also contains a significant amount of carbon dioxide and trace constituents of other gases such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, nitrogen and water vapor. PFED and other companies are exploring technologies to capture and use these resources.
High N:P Field Amendment
PFED's Field Amendment is a stable, peat-like mulch with a 4:1 – 6:1 nitrogen to phosphorus ratio. It is designed for application onto farm fields, and can be broadcast in exactly the same way (and with the same equipment) as poultry litter.
High N:P Ratio compared to poultry litter (5:1 instead of 1:1)
Very low odor (comparable to compost)
Minimal nitrogen loss due to volatilization
High N:P Potting Soil
PFED's potting soil is a stable, ultra-absorbent organic mix with an 8:1 – 10:1 nitrogen to phosphorus ratio. It can be used as a standalone media or mixed into mulch or existing soils to provide additional nutrients and water holding capacity.
High 9:1 N:P Ratio. Better suited to plant nutrient needs than general 1:1:1 N:P:K plant food and fertilizers.
Superior water rentention
High levels of sulphur and calcium, important plant micronutrients
PFED's phosphorus fertilizer was designed to be competitive with traditional P-based products on the market. It is 6% total phosphorus by dry weight, which is complemented by lower levels of plant-available nitrogen, potassium and other essential micronutrients such as sulphur.
Low moisture content
Equals or exceeds other P-based fertilizer products
